Practicing horseback archery in winter changes everything.

Snow transforms the rhythm of riding. Horses move differently across frozen trails, balance becomes more important, and the crisp Arctic air demands complete focus. Instead of fighting the winter, this camp embraces it, using the unique conditions of Finnish Lapland to develop both riding and archery skills in ways that simply aren’t possible anywhere else.

During this four-day training camp, you’ll learn under the guidance of experienced horseback archery coach Anni Jauhiainen, combining technical archery instruction with creative riding exercises designed to improve balance, body control, confidence, and communication with your horse.

Training takes place in a variety of environments. Ground archery sessions are held in our warm indoor archery hall, allowing focused technical practice regardless of the weather. Riding sessions take place outdoors on snow-covered forest trails, where you’ll experience winter riding at its finest.

Throughout the camp you’ll practice much more than traditional horseback archery. Ride bareback to develop a deeper seat, experience the thrill of skiing behind a horse, challenge yourself with mounted games like the Mongolian-style ball hunt Mogu, and discover new ways to improve your coordination while having fun. Every exercise has a purpose, but learning is always combined with laughter and adventure.

You’ll be riding our calm, sure-footed Finnhorses, a breed perfectly adapted to the northern climate. Their steady temperament, strength, and willingness to work make them ideal partners for winter horseback archery training, whether you’re refining technical skills or trying something completely new.

Between training sessions you’ll stay at Ranch Kuulas, a small family-owned ranch surrounded by peaceful forests just outside Rovaniemi. Accommodation is provided in our cozy traditional farmhouse, where guests share comfortable twin rooms that offer an authentic countryside atmosphere. Evenings are spent relaxing in a traditional Finnish sauna before gathering around the dinner table to share stories from the day.

All breakfasts, lunches, and dinners are included during the camp. Meals are prepared in our own ranch restaurant using homemade recipes inspired by Finnish and Lappish traditions. Expect hearty, nourishing food designed to keep you energized throughout active winter days, along with warm drinks and genuine hospitality that make you feel at home.

To help you remember the experience, a professional photographer will capture the highlights of the camp, allowing you to take home beautiful images from your Arctic horseback archery adventure.

Whether your goal is to improve your competitive skills, experience new training methods, or simply enjoy horseback archery in one of the world’s most extraordinary winter landscapes, this camp offers a unique combination of professional coaching, authentic Lapland hospitality, unforgettable horses, and unforgettable memories.

The Ranch & Our Way of Working

Ranch Kuulas is a working Finnish ranch just outside Rovaniemi.
We welcome guests year-round and share daily life with our Finnhorses.

About us

We are a small working ranch outside Rovaniemi, where we live and work with Finnhorses throughout the year. Our riding takes place on forest trails and open terrain shaped by the northern seasons, using Finland’s native horse breed known for its strength, steady temperament, and long history.

We guide our rides in small groups and match each horse carefully to the rider’s experience. Alongside riding, we prepare meals at Restaurant Loimu in a wood-fired oven and are opening farmhouse-style accommodation in summer 2026 for guests who want to stay longer in a quiet rural setting.
