Traditional Lappish Dinner by the Hearth

- Info
Dinner by the Hearth is not a restaurant dinner – it is a storytelling evening inspired by traditional life in Lapland.
The experience is built around fire, food and shared moments. The evening takes place in a warm, rustic setting where the hearth and wood-fired oven are at the heart of everything. Each course is inspired by northern traditions and local ingredients, prepared in a simple and honest way.
The menu is the same for everyone (vegetarian option is available) and unfolds slowly over the evening. Along the way, your host will share stories about Lapland, seasonal life, food traditions and why the hearth has always been the heart of northern homes.
This is a calm, intimate experience designed for small groups – a chance to slow down, enjoy comforting food and feel the atmosphere of Lapland beyond the activities.

Our restaurant is set inside a historic log building, originally a village bank built in the 1910s
These logs are over 110 years old. They’ve already lived one life before us.
When we found them, they were taken apart piece by piece. And instead of buying something new, we decided to give them a second life.
So we built this restaurant ourselves. Just the two of us.
No big construction team. No shortcuts.
We wanted a place that feels something. A place where food tastes better by the fire. Where time slows down. Where stories live in the walls.
If you visit us, you’re not just coming for a meal. You’re stepping into a story built by hand, from history, with love.
Space for quiet moments and gatherings
The restaurant offers seating for 15 guests downstairs, with additional space upstairs in our attic meeting room “Ullakko”, ideal for quiet retreats, creative meetings, or private dinners.
In summer 2026, we’ll open a terrace facing the wilderness, perfect for enjoying long Nordic evenings or watching the Northern Lights dance across the sky in winter.
Why visit Ranch Kuulas Restaurant?
- Intimate setting in a 100-year-old log building
- Authentic Finnish food from local ingredients
- Surrounded by peaceful nature – no traffic, no rush
- Fireplace, traditional oven & warm wooden interiors
- Possibility for private dinners and events
- Northern Lights viewing potential on clear winter nights
The Ranch & Our Way of Working

About us
We are a small working ranch outside Rovaniemi, where we live and work with Finnhorses throughout the year. Our riding takes place on forest trails and open terrain shaped by the northern seasons, using Finland’s native horse breed known for its strength, steady temperament, and long history.
We guide our rides in small groups and match each horse carefully to the rider’s experience. Alongside riding, we prepare meals at Restaurant Loimu in a wood-fired oven and are opening farmhouse-style accommodation in summer 2026 for guests who want to stay longer in a quiet rural setting.
Responsibility
At Ranch Kuulas, responsibility is part of everyday life. We care for our horses, nature and surroundings with respect, following sustainable practices and traditional ways of working. Our goal is to create experiences that feel meaningful while preserving the environment for the future.
Our Horses
Our horses are at the heart of Ranch Kuulas. From Finnish Finnhorses to Arctic horses, each one is carefully trained and well cared for. Known for their calm temperament and strength, they make every riding experience safe, steady and deeply connected to nature.
