Trick riding has a long and fascinating history.

The discipline originated with Cossack warriors, who developed acrobatic riding techniques to protect themselves in battle and move quickly around their horses. Over time, these techniques evolved into spectacular circus performances, rodeo shows and film stunts.

Today, trick riding is also recognized as an excellent training method for riders. It develops body awareness, balance, confidence and a deeper understanding of movement with the horse.
The Trick Riding Beginner Intensive Course at Ranch Kuulas introduces these skills step by step in a safe and structured way.

Participants begin by practicing movements on a special trick riding dummy horse, learning how to control their balance and body position before working with real horses.

Once the basic movements feel comfortable, exercises continue on trained horses at a calm walking pace. Each participant progresses at their own speed while receiving personal guidance from the instructor.

Coach Anni Jauhiainen brings extensive experience as a stunt performer in film productions and live shows, as well as a background as one of Europe’s most accomplished horseback archers. Her teaching style is calm, clear and safety-focused.

The course takes place at Ranch Kuulas in Finnish Lapland, surrounded by forests and open landscapes. Between training sessions, participants can relax, enjoy local food and experience the peaceful rhythm of the ranch.

This course is designed for anyone curious about trick riding — whether you are an experienced rider or simply someone who wants to explore movement with horses in a completely new way.

Training is led by Anni Jauhiainen, professional stunt rider and elite horse athlete.
Her background includes work in film productions, live shows and international horseback archery competitions. She is known for her exceptional control, precision and calm training approach.
During the course:
Exercises are adapted to each participant’s level
Safety and correct technique are prioritised
Participants progress step by step without pressure
At Ranch Kuulas, both horse welfare and rider safety are always central to training.

The afternoon is dedicated to continued trick riding exercises with individual coaching and guidance.

Day 2 – Movement & Confidence
The second day focuses on refining movements and building confidence on horseback.

Participants practice controlled trick riding exercises adapted to their own comfort level, while improving balance, coordination, and rhythm with the horse.

The course concludes in the afternoon.

The Ranch & Our Way of Working

Ranch Kuulas is a working Finnish ranch just outside Rovaniemi.
We welcome guests year-round and share daily life with our Finnhorses.

About us

We are a small working ranch outside Rovaniemi, where we live and work with Finnhorses throughout the year. Our riding takes place on forest trails and open terrain shaped by the northern seasons, using Finland’s native horse breed known for its strength, steady temperament, and long history.

We guide our rides in small groups and match each horse carefully to the rider’s experience. Alongside riding, we prepare meals at Restaurant Loimu in a wood-fired oven and are opening farmhouse-style accommodation in summer 2026 for guests who want to stay longer in a quiet rural setting.
