The experience begins at the ranch stables where riders meet their guide and horses.
Each participant is paired with a suitable horse from our herd of Finnhorses. Known for their strength, endurance and calm temperament, they are ideal companions for long trail rides through Lapland’s varied terrain.
Before departure, the guide provides a safety briefing and introduction to the horses. Helmets are provided and the guide ensures that everyone feels comfortable before setting out.
The ride begins along quiet forest trails and gradually leads deeper into the surrounding wilderness. Riders travel through forests, across open hill landscapes and along waterways that reflect the peaceful beauty of Lapland’s nature.
During the ride, the group stops for a lunch break near an open fire. A warm soup lunch with bread is served while riders rest and enjoy the surrounding landscape.
After the break, the ride continues through scenic terrain before gradually returning towards the ranch.
After approximately five and a half hours of riding, the group returns to the stable where the horses are unsaddled and released back to their paddocks.
This full-day experience offers a rare opportunity to slow down and explore Lapland’s wilderness the traditional way — from the back of a horse.

The Ranch & Our Way of Working

About us
We are a small working ranch outside Rovaniemi, where we live and work with Finnhorses throughout the year. Our riding takes place on forest trails and open terrain shaped by the northern seasons, using Finland’s native horse breed known for its strength, steady temperament, and long history.
We guide our rides in small groups and match each horse carefully to the rider’s experience. Alongside riding, we prepare meals at Restaurant Loimu in a wood-fired oven and are opening farmhouse-style accommodation in summer 2026 for guests who want to stay longer in a quiet rural setting.
Responsibility
At Ranch Kuulas, responsibility is part of everyday life. We care for our horses, nature and surroundings with respect, following sustainable practices and traditional ways of working. Our goal is to create experiences that feel meaningful while preserving the environment for the future.
Our Horses
Our horses are at the heart of Ranch Kuulas. From Finnish Finnhorses to Arctic horses, each one is carefully trained and well cared for. Known for their calm temperament and strength, they make every riding experience safe, steady and deeply connected to nature.
