Item 1
Your experience begins at the ranch stables where you meet your Finnhorse and guide. After a short introduction to riding and safety, your guide will help you get comfortable in the saddle before heading out onto the trails. You pack your swimming clothes to saddle bags.
The adventure starts with a scenic ride through Lapland’s forests and hills. Depending on the group’s experience level, the ride includes both relaxed walking sections and opportunities to trot or canter along suitable parts of the trail. Along the way, you may spot local wildlife and enjoy beautiful views over the surrounding wilderness.
After the first ride part, you arrive our other stable and getting ready to change into swimming clothes before continuing to the lake together with the horses.
One of the highlights of the experience is swimming with the horses in a peaceful wilderness lake. Guests have the opportunity to enter the water riding the horses, enjoy the unique connection with these gentle animals, and cool off during Lapland’s summer days. This is a memorable experience that few people ever get the chance to try.
After swimming, there is time to change back into riding clothes before setting off on the second part trail ride. The return ride takes you deeper into the surrounding forests and across scenic trails, offering a different perspective of the landscape.
After approximately three hours, you return to the ranch where the horses are unsaddled and released back to their paddocks.

Itinerary
Arrival at Ranch Kuulas
Meet your guide and horse at the ranch. After a short safety briefing and riding introduction, helmets are fitted and the horses are prepared for the adventure.
Trail Ride through Lapland’s Wilderness (45 min)
The journey begins on horseback as you ride through peaceful forest trails and scenic hill landscapes. Depending on the group’s experience level, the ride may include walking, trotting, and cantering on suitable sections of the route.
Swimming with Horses in a Wilderness Lake (45–60 min)
During the ride, the group arrives at a secluded lake where both horses and riders can cool off. Guests change into swimming clothes and have the opportunity to enter the water alongside the horses. This unique experience allows you to swim with a Finnhorse in a natural setting while enjoying the tranquillity of Lapland’s wilderness.
Change Back into Riding Clothes
After swimming, guests change back into riding clothes before continuing the adventure.
Trail Ride Back to the Ranch (1 hour)
The ride continues through forests and open landscapes on the return journey. Depending on the group’s riding ability and trail conditions, the route may include opportunities for trotting and cantering.
Return to the Ranch
After approximately three hours, the group returns to the ranch where the horses are unsaddled and released back to their paddocks.

- The minimum age of participants is 12. Under 18 years old need to travel with their parents.
- Weight limit for riders is 95 kg / 210 lbs
- Guests must arrive by their own car. The ranch is located approximately 40 minutes from Rovaniemi and 30 minutes from Luosto.
- There is no public transportation to the ranch.
- Not recommended for pregnant travellers.
- Participants are responsible for their own accident, travel and liability insurance.

Ranch Kuulas is a working Finnish ranch just outside Rovaniemi.
We welcome guests year-round and share daily life with our Finnhorses.
About us
We are a small working ranch outside Rovaniemi, where we live and work with Finnhorses throughout the year. Our riding takes place on forest trails and open terrain shaped by the northern seasons, using Finland’s native horse breed known for its strength, steady temperament, and long history.
We guide our rides in small groups and match each horse carefully to the rider’s experience. Alongside riding, we prepare meals at Restaurant Loimu in a wood-fired oven and are opening farmhouse-style accommodation in summer 2026 for guests who want to stay longer in a quiet rural setting.
