Ranch Kuulas – From dream to reality

Ranch Kuulas was born out of a passion for Finnish horse traditions, the unique nature of Lapland, and a desire to bring these valuable elements together in a new way. The idea for the ranch had been simmering for a long time, but it truly came to life when we realized the deep connection that can be formed between people and animals, especially with Finnhorses, which we have been working with for years at Laenlammen tila.

How it all began – the dream of Ranch Kuulas

Ranch Kuulas originally emerged from a passion for Finnish horse heritage and the captivating nature of Lapland. From childhood, Finnish horses symbolized resilience, tradition, and durability for me. These values played a key role in the creation of this dream. When life brought me to the peaceful landscapes of Lapland, I knew this was the perfect place to bring this vision to life—a place where horses and the tranquility of nature could offer visitors deep, authentic experiences. Ranch Kuulas combines these elements to create a sustainable travel destination where tradition, nature, and experiences meet in a unique way.

Laenlammen Tila – The first steps toward the dream

Laenlammen tila has been a vital starting point for the dream of Ranch Kuulas. For years, we have offered horseback riding tours and nature experiences here, where a deep connection with horses and Lapland’s nature has become part of our daily operations. Horses like Kuulas have been an important part of our visitors’ experiences, and we’ve seen the profound impact these experiences have on them. Laenlammen tila served as a testing ground for the vision of Ranch Kuulas, providing valuable lessons on how to combine horse heritage, local culture, and nature-focused travel experiences.

Through these experiences, we’ve learned how to create authentic and personal experiences that prioritize the well-being of animals and respect for nature. We’ve also recognized the importance of sustainable practices and how traditional rural life can be combined with modern tourism in a responsible way. Laenlammen tila was the first step toward Ranch Kuulas—lessons learned there will guide us into the future.

As our business grew, Laenlammen tila quickly became too small to meet the increasing demand and interest. Horseback riding tours and nature experiences attracted more visitors, and the need for larger and more versatile facilities became evident early on. This led to the decision to build a new and improved place—Ranch Kuulas. The new ranch offers more space for horses, visitors, and diverse experiences, allowing us to realize our vision to its fullest potential.

Ranch Kuulas’ values – from horse heritage to sustainability

At the heart of Ranch Kuulas’ operations are the preservation of Finnish horse heritage, support for local culture, and environmental sustainability. These values are central to both the construction of the ranch and its future operations.

The Importance of Finnish Horse Heritage

Ranch Kuulas is deeply rooted in Finnish horse heritage, especially the Finnish horse, which has been a significant part of Finland’s agricultural history and culture for centuries. Horses like Kuulas are not only a draw for tourists, but they also represent a tradition where horses are partners in work and life. We aim for visitors to experience this deep connection with horses and understand their importance in Finnish culture.

Environmental Sustainability and Responsible Tourism

Sustainability guides everything we do at Ranch Kuulas. During construction, we use eco-friendly materials, such as locally sourced timber and repurposed old log buildings, and we utilize solar energy for the ranch’s power needs. The entire site is designed with environmental sustainability in mind: we use renewable energy, minimize waste, and recycle as much as possible. In the future, the ranch’s services will also adhere to sustainable tourism principles, allowing visitors to enjoy nature responsibly while respecting the environment.

Supporting Local Culture

Ranch Kuulas is committed to supporting local culture and the Lapland community. We work closely with local artisans and producers, and we strive to preserve traditional skills, such as log construction and working with horses. Additionally, we want to offer visitors authentic local experiences that support Lapland’s cultural heritage and contribute to the well-being of the community.

Based on these values, Ranch Kuulas will be more than just a travel destination—it will be a place that preserves and celebrates Finnish traditions and a deep respect for nature, ensuring these values are passed on to future generations.

Looking ahead – what to expect from Ranch Kuulas in autumn 2025

When Ranch Kuulas opens in the fall of 2025, it will offer visitors an authentic and intimate way to experience Finnish horse heritage and the harmony of Lapland’s nature. We have a variety of experiences in store, with traditional horseback riding tours and local cultural activities at the forefront.

What Experiences Does Ranch Kuulas Offer?

Visitors can look forward to unforgettable horseback riding tours with Finnish horses, exploring Lapland’s peaceful and untouched landscapes. In winter, the rides take you through snow-covered trails, and riding under the Northern Lights is an experience you won’t forget. In summer, rides under the midnight sun offer a unique sense of peace and connection with nature.

Our accommodation emphasizes traditional Finnish heritage—single-person rooms are located in a traditional barn-style luhtiaitta, offering a glimpse into the past, reminiscent of the quarters for farmhands in days gone by. The barn is a tribute to Finnish rural traditions, and each visitor will enjoy simple yet comfortable accommodations, a perfect contrast to the hectic pace of modern life. In addition, sauna experiences and traditional Finnish meals will complete the visit, offering tranquility and a deeper understanding of Finnish culture.

What Makes Ranch Kuulas Unique?

Ranch Kuulas stands out from other travel destinations due to its deep connection to Finnish horse heritage and local culture. We focus on individual and authentic experiences that respect both the well-being of the horses and the surrounding nature. For visitors, we offer intimate, small-group experiences where each person can form a genuine connection with both the horses and Lapland’s rugged but beautiful wilderness.

Traditional accommodations in the luhtiaitta further enhance the unique experience, providing peace and quiet in the heart of nature. Ranch Kuulas will be a destination that offers not just travel, but a profound experience of Finnish culture, nature, and lifestyle, blending the past and present in a truly unique way.
