This is not just about hitting targets — it is about the connection between horse, rider, mind, and movement.

Horseback Archery Coach & Competitive Athlete

Valtteri is an active horseback archer who has competed both in Finland and internationally. He is a candidate instructor of the Finnish Horseback Archery Association and also serves as a Level 1 judge, giving him a strong understanding of the sport from both the athlete’s and the official’s perspective.

His personal coach is Anni Jauhiainen, one of the most accomplished horseback archers in Finland and internationally.

Competition Experience & Achievements

  • Silver Medal – Gauhoux Open 2025
  • 8th place – Senior World Championships 2025 (Tennessee, USA)
  • National and international competition experience in horseback archery
  • Active involvement in the competitive horseback archery community

Valtteri brings this high-level competitive insight directly into his coaching, helping riders understand not only how to perform, but why certain techniques work under pressure.

Athletic Background & Mental Strength

Before focusing on horseback archery, Valtteri competed at a high level in endurance and precision sports. His background includes:

  • Cross-country skiing
  • Triathlon – Finnish Championship medals (gold, silver, and bronze)
  • Cave diving
  • Gliding (sailplane flying)

These disciplines demand exceptional mental control, focus, and decision-making under pressure. Through these experiences, Valtteri developed a strong understanding of mental resilience, stress management, and performance psychology — skills that are essential in horseback archery and deeply embedded in his coaching philosophy.

Horsemanship & Training Philosophy

Valtteri’s connection to horses runs deep. His first personal horse was a one-year-old Finnhorse stallion named Kuulas, who later became the namesake of Ranch Kuulas.

Over the years, Valtteri has trained and worked with numerous horses for:

  • Trail riding
  • Sleigh driving
  • Farm and forest work
  • Horseback archery

He is especially respected for his ability to build trust-based relationships with horses, which is crucial in a discipline where the horse must move freely and confidently while the rider focuses entirely on shooting. Valtteri is also farrier.

At Ranch Kuulas, horse welfare, clear communication, and calm, systematic training always come first.

Leadership & Coaching Skills

With a strong background in leadership training, Valtteri is a calm, structured, and highly reliable coach. His approach is:

  • Systematic and safety-focused
  • Step-by-step and progressive
  • Adapted to each rider’s skill level

Every training session is carefully planned to ensure that riders feel confident, supported, and challenged in the right way. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced competitor, you will always know what you are doing and why.

Practical Skills & Languages

Beyond sport and horses, Valtteri is known for his exceptional practical skills. He can build, repair, and design most of the equipment and structures used at the ranch — from horseback archery tracks to training obstacles. This hands-on expertise allows Ranch Kuulas to create custom, safe, and functional training environments.

Valtteri speaks fluent Finnish and English, making him an excellent coach for both local and international riders.
