Day 1: Arrival & Northern Lights Ride

  • Welcome to Ranch Kuulas – meet your guides, horses, and fellow riders.
  • Stable tour & horse introduction – connect with your Finnhorse and learn about traditional Finnish horsemanship.
  • Traditional Lappish dinner, featuring locally sourced ingredients.
  • 1-hour horseback ride + aurora hunt (2h total):
    • Ride through the snowy forests under the Arctic night sky.
    • Stop at a scenic spot to enjoy hot drinks by the fire, with a chance to see the northern lights.
Day 2: Horse Sleigh Ride & Kota Lunch in the Wilderness

Since deep snow limits long horseback rides in winter, today’s adventure is a horse-drawn sleigh ride through the snowy landscape.

  • Breakfast at the farm, enjoying fresh local ingredients.
  • Horse sleigh ride through the Arctic wilderness (2h) – Glide through the silent, snow-covered forest wrapped in warm blankets while listening to the rhythmic jingle of sleigh bells.
  • Lunch in a cozy kota hut, enjoying hot soup and local delicacies by the fire.
  • Finnish sauna & drum relaxation – Cleanse your body and mind in a traditional sauna, followed by a guided drum meditation session.

Day 3: Farewell Horse Ride & Lunch

Q: Do I need horseback riding experience?
A: Yes, for horseback riding holidays you need to be advanced rider. We ride all gaits.

Q: What kind of horses do you use?
A: We ride Finnhorses, Finland’s national horse breed. They are calm, strong, and versatile, making them perfect for trail riding in Lapland’s varied terrain.

Q: How far in advance should I book?
A: We recommend booking at least 3 month ago in advance, especially for peak season (June–September & December–March).

Q: What if the weather is bad?
A: Horseback riding in Lapland is an all-weather experience! We ride in light rain, snow, and different temperatures. If extreme weather conditions make riding unsafe, we will reschedule or offer an alternative experience.

Q: When is the best time to ride in Lapland?
A: Every winter month offers a different experience:
✔️ December–January: Deep snow, magical polar nights, and cozy winter rides.
✔️ February–March: Longer daylight hours, sunshine on snow, and high chances of northern lights.

Q: Will I see the northern lights on a ride?
A: December–March is prime aurora season, but since the northern lights are a natural phenomenon, sightings cannot be guaranteed. However, our Northern Lights Ride takes you to the best viewing locations away from light pollution for the highest chances.

Q: How do I get to Ranch Kuulas?
A: We are located about 40 minutes from Rovaniemi city center and 30 minutes from Luosto. You will need your own car, as there is no public transportation available. We can also help arrange private transfers upon request.
